Description

Well after seeing single and double harpoon versions of this gun, here is a true member of heavy weight category a quad version of Johnson's Submarine Gun. It is made by Johnson, Tapmatic Corp. Costa Mesa, California and it can be also found under name "SMG Speargun".

Side view of Quad gun

In all of its features its is identical to single and double versions, except the reel and of course exception of having four barrels with four harpoons (one - bottom, is missing on above photo).

Detail of firing handle with trigger and safety lever, and added reel

It is interesting that this speargun has a larger added-on reel unlike single and double spearguns which have reels integrated in the handle. I have no idea how reel mechanism actually worked with four harpoons and it would be interesting to find out.

Other side of handles

View from other sides discovers fact that handle mold is identical for all versions of this speargun. A hole for normally integrated reel is clearly visible.

Back view

Handle has also holder for up to four 22 cal cartridges. An SMG logo is also clearly visible on this particular speargun.

Front view

Very interesting view shows fully wound reel and firing nozzles with aiming eye sights.

Top view

Robust and sturdy body provides solid base for firing 22 cal cartridges but must have been quite clumsy to be operated under sea in hunting positions.

Harpoon tips

It seems that these harpoons have detachable tips, usefully when large fish like tuna is caught. It is unclear if this is custom made on this gun or original version, since they look much newer than rest of the gun and it is quite different than one shown on a single spear version.
